Pigtail fiber is the optical fiber used to connect the optical cable terminal box to the equipment.

Pigtails are often divided into single-mode or multi-mode, single-fiber or dual-fiber, transmission distance, and pigtail interface type. Currently, the commonly used pigtail interface types of optical fiber equipment on the market are: FC, SC, LC, and ST.

The first type: FC interface type

FC connector is also called a round threaded connector (most commonly used on patch panels). It is a metal connector and is generally used on the ODF side. Metal connectors can be plugged and unplugged more times than plastic ones.

Second type: SC interface type

The SC connector is also called a snap-on square connector (most commonly used on routers and switches). It is a standard square connector made of engineering plastics, which has the advantages of high temperature resistance and not easy to oxidize. The optical interface on the transmission equipment side generally uses SC connector.
The third type: LC interface type

The LC connector has a similar shape to the SC connector, but is smaller than the SC connector.

Type 4: ST connector

ST connector is also called snap-on circular connector. For 10Base-F connection, the connector is usually of ST type.
Pigtails are divided into multi-mode pigtails and single-mode pigtails. The multi-mode pigtail is orange, has a wavelength of 850nm, and a transmission distance of 500m, and is used for short-distance interconnection. The single-mode pigtail is yellow and has two wavelengths, 1310nm and 1550nm. The transmission distances are 10km and 40km respectively.
